It was a pleasure to share the stage with Florian Augustin from Finizio and Dr. Heribert Insam a retired expert on traditional wastewater systems from Austria. Florian and I explained the advantages of a waterless system over the traditional one espoused by Dr. Insam. The discussion was pointed but respectful. Dr. Insam remarked that in Austria there are wastewater treatment plants that are net zero in terms of energy consumption. However, they are not recovering the nutrients from our excrement, as the dry toilets from Finizio do.
